Metabolomics at the Durban University of Technology
The Durban University of Technology’s Metabolomics Unit is an integral part of the Computational and Systems Biology Research Group led by Prof. Saheed Sabiu. The Unit focuses on qualitative and quantitative analysis of low-molecular-weight metabolites in tissues/cells of plants and animals using high-throughput detection and data processing techniques, which aims at information modeling and system integration. We explore biochemical changes in organisms from a macroscopic perspective to evaluate specific gene functions as an integral part of systems biology. The overarching operation of our projects is based on a three-step approach comprising sample preparation, analysis, and high-throughput data processing/interpretation.
